Transportation From Local Airports to Downtown Washington DC
Dulles International Airport (IAD)
SuperShuttle’s door-to-door shared ride van service is available to and from Washington Dulles International Airport. The SuperShuttle ticket counters are located on the far ends of the Ground Transportation Level of the Main Terminal. Shuttles operate on an on-demand basis. No reservations are needed for outbound service from the Airport.
Washington Flyer Coach Service
Tickets for the Flyer Coach can be purchased at the ticket counter located inside the vestibule of Door 4 on the Arrivals Level of the Main Terminal (location map). Travel time between Washington Dulles International Airport and the West Falls Church Metro Station (location map) averages 20 to 30 minutes. Times subject to change based on traffic and weather conditions. Cost is $10/person one-way, $18/person round trip.
Washington Flyer Taxicabs serve Dulles International Airport exclusively with 24-hour service to and from the airport. Taxicabs accept American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, Discover Card and Visa, and provide transportation at metered rates to any destination within the Metropolitan Washington area. Approximate one-way fares to Washington, DC are about $60. Follow the signs for "Ground Transportation" or "Taxi" to the lower level of the Main Terminal, where a taxicab dispatcher is on duty 24 hours a day.
Reagan National Airport (DCA)
The Washington DC Metro system has an elevated station connected to the concourse level of terminals B and C at Reagan National Airport. Metro fare cards may be purchased at machines located at all entrances to the Airport Metro station. The station is also fully accessible via elevators.
To Access the Metro Station from the Terminals:
- Terminal B and C: Use either of two enclosed pedestrian bridges on the concourse level, which connect directly to the station.
- Terminal A: Exit the terminal to the street side curb, and board any "Airport Shuttle" bus. At the stop for Parking Garages B and C (bus shelter #3 and bus shelter #5) you may access an enclosed bridge, which connects to the Metro station.

SuperShuttle's door-to-door shared ride van service is available to and from Reagan National Airport. Upon arrival proceed to the outside curb and contact the SuperShuttle representative. After hours, call 1-800-258-3826 and press 1 for dispatch or 2 for reservations.
Taxicab stands are conveniently located near the Arrivals (baggage claim) exits of each terminal. Dispatchers at each stand will help you select a taxicab based on your destination in Washington DC, Virginia, or Maryland. No advance reservations are required—service is on a first-come, first-served basis. The estimated rate to Downtown Washington, DC is approximately $20.
Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI)
The BWI taxi stand is located just outside of the baggage claim area of the Lower Level of the BWI Marshall Airport Terminal. Please note that this service is available from BWI only. The estimated rate to Washington, DC is $90/person.
SuperShuttle SuperShuttle's door-to-door shared ride van service is available to and from Baltimore/Washington International Airport. For individual travelers the cost is $35.00/person.
Catch the BWI Express from BWI Airport. There are two WMATA Bus Stops. One is located on the lower level of the International Concourse and the other stop is located on the lower level of Concourse A/B. The B30 will pick you up outside at the bus shelter. Follow the signs that say “Public Transit.” The Greenbelt Metro Station connects to Metro Stations throughout Washington, DC, Virginia, Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties.
Trains provide service to Union Station. The BWI Rail Station is just a few miles from the airport and free shuttles are available. For Amtrak schedules and information call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245), or visit www.amtrak.com. Estimated fares range from $18.00 to $48.00 per trip.
Trains depart from the BWI Rail Station and run to Union Station in Washington, DC and New Carrolton, Seabrook and Bowie stations in Prince George's County. Getting Around DC
Introductory information on using the Metro system can be found here. Other important information to be found on the Metro website is the System Map, the Trip Planner feature, and the Visitor's Kit. The suggested Metro stop for the Carnegie Institution of Washington is the Dupont Circle, located on the Red line. Other nearby metro stop is Farragut North (Red). You can also use bus system and the maps and trip planer are at the same website as the Metro system
